April 25 – Highland Council has chosen Omnibus timetabling, mapping, and scheduling solutions from Velociti to improve efficiency and reduce the risk of errors.
The council oversees a vital operation that includes public and school transport bus routes. Since January 2023, investment in the operation has expanded the number of operating vehicles to 20.
The council needed a software solution to replace their previous manual processes, which involved timetable creation, schedule production, and sharing timetables with HITRANS for bus stop publicity across the network. Enhancing efficiency and minimising errors is crucial for the council to support the continued growth of its operations.
The Omnibus software suite will ensure they can create complex timetables without compromising accuracy, generate accurate and efficient vehicle schedules, easily create and edit bus routes, and seamlessly share data with TransXChange.
Chair of The Highland Council’s Economy and Infrastructure Committee Councillor Ken Gowans said: “Investing in our bus operation is essential for our ongoing growth, and implementing the Omnibus software suite from Velociti Solutions was the obvious next step for us. Previously, we relied on spreadsheets, which are time-consuming and more prone to human error. Using software specifically designed for the industry ensures we can create efficient routes and timetables that meet the needs of passengers with ease, giving us more time to focus on improvement plans.”
Nick Brookes, Chief Customer Officer at Velociti Solutions, said: “We’re thrilled to be partnering with Highland Council and supporting their journey of growth with Velociti’s Omnibus software suite. As more Local Transport Authorities begin to have more control over the network in their communities, it is essential they have the right tools to provide an efficient network and respond quickly to evolving market demands.”
