Passenger satisfaction with bus services in England is on the rise, reaching 85% in 2025, up from 83% the previous year, according to Transport Focus’s latest Your Bus Journey survey.
The study, covering over 50,000 journeys, highlights steady progress since 2024, when satisfaction stood at 80%. Scotland saw an even sharper increase, climbing from 86% to 91%. However, the picture varies widely by region: Greater Nottingham and Warwickshire lead with 93% satisfaction, while Thurrock lags behind at 73%. Notably, Greater Manchester recorded the biggest improvement, jumping from 79% to 86% following the rollout of franchised services.
Despite these gains, challenges remain. Satisfaction with value for money has dropped significantly, largely due to the increase in the bus fare cap, while a gap persists between disabled and non-disabled passengers’ experiences. Concerns around personal security at bus stops have also grown, even as punctuality and journey times show modest improvements.
Industry leaders praise the overall upward trend but stress the need to address affordability, accessibility and safety to ensure consistent progress across all regions.
