Official figures released show that regional rail travel across Great Britain continued to grow in the latest rail year (April 2024 to March 2025).
According to the Regional rail usage statistics:
- A total of 1,084 million journeys were made within regions, up 7% on the previous year.
- Inter-regional journeys also increased, with 448 million trips, marking an 8% rise compared with 2023–24.
The data covers journeys made entirely within regions as well as those between England, Scotland and Wales, based on passenger ticket records.
London remained the busiest area for regional rail travel, accounting for the highest number of overall journeys.
The statistics reflect ongoing growth in rail use following pandemic-related declines, providing insight into travel patterns across England, Scotland and Wales.
